Tulsa’s Catch of the Day: White River Fish Market hooks us every time

There was a time when I turned my nose up to seafood. My Mom’s disdain for anything “fishy” rubbed off on me.

Then I grew up.

It took me until just last year to cast my enlightened culinary net on the White River Fish Market and Restaurant.

This Tulsa enterprise has been importing and serving fresh fish and seafood since 1932. Located on the north side of town near the airport allows it to bring in some of both coasts’ best catches.

Some of our favorite dishes include the grilled halibut, fried catfish and shrimp, red beans and rice, hush puppies and onion rings.

The restaurant gathers an impressive crowd, especially during its lobster nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Line up at the counter, hand select your fish and have a seat in one of its booths or communal tables. Everyone is family here, which explains all of the regulars.

Even more than the fish, the smiling staff keeps you coming back for more.
